  30. ViewNotes are online documents designed to answer questions you
  31. may have about Microsoft Windows-based products. To read this
  32. ViewNote in Microsoft Multimedia Viewer, a program that allows
  33. you to read .MVB files (online Viewer documents), follow the 
  34. instructions below. ViewNotes require Microsoft Windows operating
  35. system version 3.0 or later.

  37. FILES THAT MUST BE DOWNLOADED
  38. -----------------------------

  40. This ViewNote requires the following:
  41.  
  42.  - VW003.MVB (the ViewNote)
  43.  - VW003.IND (the ViewNote index)
  44.  - MMVIEW.EXE (Microsoft Multimedia Viewer)
  45.

  47. INSTALLATION
  48. ------------
  49.  
  50. Note: If you already have Microsoft Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE)
  51. installed in your VIEWNOTE directory, skip to step 2.
  52.  
  53. To install Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE) and the files for this ViewNote
  54. (VW003.MVB and VW003.IND), do the following:
  55.  
  56. Note: To save hard-disk space, you may prefer to copy this 
  57. ViewNote to a high-density floppy disk and run the ViewNote from 
  58. the floppy disk rather than running the ViewNote from your hard 
  59. disk). If this is the case, copy the MMVIEW.EXE, VW003.MVB,
  60. and VW003.IND files to a floppy disk instead of to your VIEWNOTE
  61. directory.

  63. 1. If you do not have a VIEWNOTE directory set up with 
  64.    MMVIEW.EXE located in the directory, do the following to 
  65.    install a read-only version of Viewer:
  66.  
  67.    a. Create a directory by choosing Create Directory from the 
  68.       File menu in File Manager, typing "viewnote" (without the
  69.       quotation marks) in the Name box, and choosing the OK 
  70.       button.
  71.  
  72.    b. Download Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE) from your bulletin board
  73.       service (for example, from the Microsoft Download Service
  74.       [MSDL], OnLine, CompuServe, or GEnie). MMVIEW.EXE can be 
  75.       obtained from the Software/Data Library on CompuServe, 
  76.       OnLine, and GEnie by searching for the word MMVIEW or 
  77.       S13434. Note that MMVIEW.EXE is compressed in the file 
  78.       MMVIEW.ZIP on CompuServe, OnLine, and GEnie. After the file 
  79.       has been downloaded, you must decompress the file using the 
  80.       PKware PKUNZIP utility.
  81.                            
  82.       Viewer can also be downloaded through the MSDL at (206) 
  83.       936-6735. Viewer is located in the Windows 3.1 file area 
  84.       and is in the self-extracting file MMVIEW.EXE. For more 
  85.       information about the MSDL, query on the following words in 
  86.       the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  90. 2. After you have downloaded MMVIEW.EXE, VW003.MVB, and VW003.IND
  91.    (and decompressed the files if you are using OnLine,
  92.    CompuServe, or GEnie), move MMVIEW.EXE, VW003.MVB, and 
  93.    VW003.IND to your VIEWNOTE directory or floppy disk:

  95.    a. In File Manager, select the files you want to move.
  96.    b. From the File menu, choose Move.
  97.    c. In the To text box, type the path to the VIEWNOTE 
  98.       directory you created in step 1a.
  99.    d. Choose the OK button.

  101. READING THIS VIEWNOTE
  102. ---------------------

  104. To read the "Using Windows 3.1 and Networks" ViewNote, 
  105. do the following:
  106.  
  107. 1. After installing Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE), VW003.MVB, and 
  108.    VW003.IND using the instructions above, run Windows 
  109.    File Manager.
  110.  
  111. 2. If you are running "Using Windows 3.1 and Networks" 
  112.    from your hard disk, open the directory where Viewer,
  113.    VW003.MVB, and VW003.IND reside (the VIEWNOTE directory if you
  114.    followed the directions above) and double-click VW003.MVB.
  115.    If you are using a keyboard, select VW003.MVB and press ENTER.

  119.    If you are running "Using Windows 3.1 and Networks" from 
  120.    a floppy disk, run MMVIEW.EXE, choose Open from the File menu
  121.    in Viewer, select VW003.MVB, and choose the OK button.

  123. SETTING UP A VIEWER ICON
  124. ------------------------
  125.  
  126. If you set up a Viewer icon, you can run Viewer by choosing the
  127. icon, and then load the ViewNote by choosing Open from the 
  128. File menu in Viewer, and selecting VW003.MVB from the VIEWNOTE
  129. directory. To set up a ViewNote icon, create a program item for
  130. Viewer. For information about creating a program item, see pages 
  131. 78-81 of the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide" for Windows version 
  132. 3.1 and pages 89-91 of the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide" for 
  133. version 3.0.
